Education isn’t something that happens only in the classroom. Much of what is learned can only be taught by being hands-on, watching experts in the field and emulating their work. Celebrating its ninth year, Comedy Central Summer School invites aspiring comedy writers of color to receive just that kind of experience across a variety of departments, where they make invaluable industry contacts and hone their writing skills with some of the industry’s best comedy writers, including those from the award-winning staffs of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.
The program partners with select universities — NYU, Columbia, Northwestern, Emerson and Howard — to offer students an eight-week internship, during which they are exposed to every part of the television comedy industry. They spend time working in departments such as Development, Multiplatform Content and On- and Off-Air Marketing, while having exclusive opportunities to go behind the scenes with professional comedy writers.
