Love is Louder was started by The Jed Foundation, MTV and actress Brittany Snow in late 2010 to support anyone feeling mistreated, misunderstood or alone. The movement works online, in communities and through the media to strengthen emotional health by building resiliency, creating connectedness, promoting acceptance and equipping advocates to support their peers. Hundreds of thousands of people, communities and schools around the world have used the movement to tackle issues like bullying, self-esteem, body image and discrimination.
The movement invites people everywhere to be a part of the conversation by connecting on Facebook and Twitter or by uploading a brief video or photo, telling the world what they believe love is louder than. So far, more than 200,000 fans and followers have joined the dialogue online, and the movement has been a trending topic on Twitter numerous times.
“Hi Brittany or whoever is reading this. I would like to say thank you for this foundation. Over the past few days I have been dealing with a lot of heartbreak. My great-aunt passed away, my uncle got diagnosed with a brain tumor and my dog is most likely going to have to be put down tomorrow due to diabetes. I am currently 7 months clean of everything and the past week has been really hard to deal with. Staying strong is hard at the best of times. Your foundation always gives me hope and pushes me through every day hoping I can achieve my 8 months clean goal all by myself with no help. Thank you for giving me hope and reminding me LOVE IS LOUDER THAN HEARTBREAK.”
