Viacom Entertainment Group’s Xtra Credits! gives employees the chance to offer their friendship and support to a student by becoming a mentor in New York City’s Professional Performing Arts School. Employees volunteer at various school performances where they sell tickets, encourage participation in school fundraisers and welcome guests to events. The program, which now has over 20 mentors, has also organized group trips to school performances and movie screenings, and has invited students to explore Viacom by giving them an insider’s look at how shows are created and aired.
This past year, each volunteer committed to four hours of one-on-one mentorship a month. One of the volunteers, Susie Kricena, and her mentee narrowly missed being named the Department of Education’s Mentor-Mentee Pair of the Year, coming in a close second.
